Support for Students with Specific Educational Needs (SEN)
As a public institution, the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave is committed to implementing an inclusion policy that removes obstacles to full participation in academic, social, and cultural life, ensuring the success of students with Specific Educational Needs (SEN).
SEN Status
Students with SEN are entitled to a set of specialized supports, which are defined on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the Statute for Students with Specific Educational Needs at the Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave.
The request for support is made online through the SIGA system, and the student must attach reports or opinions as outlined in Article 148 of the SEN Statute. After the request is submitted, the Psychology Office will meet with the Course Director and the student to define the support plan. The Course Director will then communicate this plan to all professors teaching the courses in which the student is enrolled. The professors will discuss the plan with each other to ensure mutual understanding. The Psychology Office maintains continuous contact with both the professors and the students.
This approach at IPCA ensures an inclusive academic environment, providing students with SEN the necessary support for their academic and personal success.
